Study Title: Feelings, Memories & Me!
Description: We are interested in how adolescents remember past events in their lives (such as birthdays or special trips, called ‘autobiographical memory’), how these memories are shaped by their relationship with their guardian (called ‘attachment style’), and how they might be linked to feelings of sadness.
Who: Adolescents (aged 13-16, who are developing typically, without neurodevelopmental conditions or diagnosed with mental health issues), and ONE of their main guardians.
Note. The main guardian refers to the person who mainly takes care of the adolescent (usually one of the parents). If your child has more than one person who mainly takes care of them, please discuss with your child who will be the ONE main guardian completing the guardian survey. This is important because your child will also need to answer some questions related to that specific person.
Where: Online
Time: The main guardian’s survey will last about 5 minutes, and the adolescent’s survey will last about 50 minutes (maximum).
Incentive: As a thank you for taking part, you and your child will receive a £10 National Book Token, which can be used in bookstores like Waterstones. It will be sent to you via email.
If you and your child would like to take part, please (follow the steps in order and complete them within one week):
- Step 1: Read the Main Guardian’s and Adolescent’s Participant Information Sheets (via links). Talk it over with your child and obtain their agreement to participate.
- Step 2: The Main guardian signs the Main guardian’s Consent Form (via the guardian’s link) and completes the main guardian survey first (on the next page of the Participant Information Sheet).
- Step 3: Once the main guardian survey is done, the child signs their Assent Form (via adolescent’s link) and completes their survey (on the next page of the Participant Information Sheet) independently.
- Step 4: When you see “Your response has been recorded”, the study is complete. You can then close the page.
- Step 5: We will email your reward within a few weeks.
